Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research-supported approach to helping children — most commonly children on the autism spectrum — build the communication, social, learning, and adaptive skills that open up everyday life. Done well, ABA looks like play, feels like progress, and is built around the family’s real goals.
What ABA Is — and What It Should Look Like Today
Modern ABA is a long way from the rigid, drill-heavy programs of decades past. The version we deliver is naturalistic, play-based, and grounded in your child’s motivation. We follow your child’s lead, build trust before teaching, and use everyday opportunities — snack time, getting dressed, playground play — to work on meaningful skills. Structured teaching still has a place when it is the right fit, but it is one tool in the toolbox, not the whole program.
Who Benefits From ABA
Families across the Treasure Coast reach out to us for ABA support when their child is working on:
- Communication — requesting, commenting, conversational skills, alternative or augmentative communication.
- Social skills — joint attention, play with peers, turn-taking, perspective-taking, friendship building.
- Adaptive skills — self-care, daily routines, toileting, mealtime flexibility, community participation.
- Learning readiness — attending, following instructions, transitioning between activities, tolerating non-preferred tasks.
- Behavior support — understanding the function of challenging behavior and teaching effective replacement skills.
- Family routines — reducing meltdowns around homework, bedtime, transitions, and sibling interactions.
Our BCBA-Supervised Model
Every ABA program at Vero Pediatric Therapy Services is designed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Your BCBA owns the assessment, treatment plan, and ongoing data review. Direct sessions may be delivered by qualified Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) under the BCBA’s active supervision — the same model used by leading clinics nationally.
Parent Partnership Is Non-Negotiable
The single biggest predictor of long-term success in ABA is consistent parent involvement. We coordinate closely with families during sessions, share strategies and progress notes, and welcome parent observation. Families who want a structured, in-depth approach to learning the techniques their team uses can enroll in our dedicated Parent Coaching program — a separate six-month coaching arc that runs alongside, or independently of, direct therapy.
Our Ethical Commitments
Modern, ethical ABA centers the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of the child. We:
- Pursue socially meaningful goals chosen with families, not goals imposed on them.
- Build assent into every program — teaching only when the child is calm, regulated, and willing.
- Avoid practices that prioritize compliance over development or emotional safety.
- Collaborate openly with families, schools, OTs, SLPs, and pediatricians.
